Horse Racing: Cancellation Of The Season Still Pending

Must Read

The cancellation of the horse racing season was discussed on October 7 after a meeting between the directors of the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC) and those of the MTC Sports and Leisure Ltd (MTCSL) with the coaches of the turf club.

And the resumption of the racing season will be decided after the authorities have given their agreement to remove the closure that currently weighs on the Mauritian races.

This is stated in a statement issued by the MTCSL on Friday, October 15.

The release also states that a request has also been made for a meeting with the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA). With the pandemic and restrictions on horse racing, the finances of the MTC and MTCSL are in the red.

Especially since the Prime Minister did not want to receive the leaders of Mauritian turf, preferring to refer them to his ‘senior advisor’.

A situation that pushes the decision makers of the local horse industry to review the implications of a possible stop of the horse racing season.

The release further states that every effort will be made to safeguard the interest of MTC members and employees.

And that both the MTC and the MTCSL remain hopeful that the Mauritian Government will save the horse industry and that the Champ-de-Mars will soon welcome spectators and horsemen.
