Hairdresser Arrested For Drug Trafficking

A raid by police officers from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) of the Western Division at the home of a hairdresser at the VRS morcellement in Bambous on Tuesday morning, September 5, resulted in the seizure of 39.7 grams of heroin, 120 doses of the same drug and the sum of Rs 9600 suspected to have come from the sale of this drug. The value of the latter is estimated at Rs 643,500. Wendy Sandrine Soodon, née Verloppe, aged 32, was arrested on a charge of drug trafficking.

The Adsu team, led by sergeant Pharmasse, carried out the operation at the hairdresser’s home at around 10.15 am on Tuesday morning, September 5. This followed hour of surveillance. They had received information that Wendy Soodon was involved in drug trafficking.

Armed with a search warrant, the hairdresser was informed of the reason for the police presence at her home. A search carried out in her presence revealed a plastic bag containing 39.7 grams of heroin, three packages wrapped in aluminium foil containing one hundred and twenty doses of heroin, a partially used roll of aluminium foil and a roll of adhesive tape.  A sum of Rs 9600 in various denominations was also seized.

After questioning, Wendy Soodon was taken into custody. This Wednesday, September 6, she will be brought before the Bambous court on a provisional charge of drug trafficking. The police intend to object to her release on parole.
