For The Year 2020: Unused Leave Of Absence For Retired Paid State Employees

Must Read

The Ministry of Public Service clarifies its position on the non-reimbursement of unused sick leave for the year 2020 for civil servants and employees of parastatals.

In a circular issued at the end of the week by the Secretary for Public Service (SPS), Bozrajsing Boyrmboli, it is stated that these sick leaves had not been reimbursed due to the negative impact of Covid-19 on public finances. However, the decision has been taken to reimburse these sick leaves in cash when these employees will be eligible for retirement.

On the other hand, it is expected that civil servants, who will retire when and where they retire, will receive these reimbursements. The SPS clarifies that Circular No. 17 also applies to employees of state-owned enterprises and those assigned to regional governments.

The SPS invites the Supervisory Officers to communicate the contents of this circular to the heads of departments and officials of the various ministries.

The decision was taken after a meeting between the leaders of the Government Servants Employees Association (GSEA) to clarify the situation regarding the non-reimbursement of leave due to civil servants for the year 2020. The leaders of this civil servants’ union wanted to know if the non-reimbursed leaves for the year 2020 would not be reimbursed.
