The doctor on board unfortunately had to declare the death of Oodesh Heerlall, known as Rookesh, who was seriously injured. His passenger in the rump was taken to the hospital in Flacq after undergoing surgery. His condition was considered to be of concern.

The driver of the contract bus, a 35 year old male resident of Dagotiere, was taken to the Flacq Police Station for a breathalyzer test, which was negative. He was arrested and taken into custody at the Rivière-Sèche police station. On Saturday, January 29, he was brought before the Bail and Remand Court in Port-Louis on a provisional charge of manslaughter. He was released on bail the same day. On Monday, January 31, he was again brought before the Flacq court.

In his deposition, the driver of the contract bus explained that the motorcyclist was driving towards the village of Isidore Rose coming from Flacq. At one point, he changed lanes and collided head-on with the oncoming vehicle.
