Duval : “There Is Embezzlement Regarding Upgrading Works At Splash And Fun Leisure Park”

The Private Notice Question of this Tuesday was focused on the cost of renovation and redevelopment of the Splash and Fun Leisure Park. It was addressed to the Minister of Agribusiness, Maneesh Gobin. In the PNQ, Xavier-Luc Duval stated that the cost is about Rs 380 million. In his answer, Maneesh Gobin pointed out that the initial cost was Rs 350 million. He confirmed that the work is not completed. However, he explained that the water park had to close its doors three times because of the sanitary situation. For Xavier-Luc Duval, it is clear that there was embezzlement. He said that the works made do not justify the amount spent. He added that many attractions was not operational. Maneesh Gobin replied that if there was misappropriation, the Sugar Investment Trust Board of Directors will have to take responsibility. He stressed that it is premature to talk about misappropriation at this time. However, the minister revealed that the newly formed Sugar Investment Trust board was currently studying the internal audit report. He also asked that other audit exercises are being conducted. Xavier-Luc Duval called for a commission of inquiry into the whole matter.
