Drug Related Deadly Assault Of Jean Desveaux Augustin

Must Read

Today, the death of Jean Desveaux Augustin, a rodriguan born, can somehow be more clearly understood. One of the suspects arrested in this case confessed to the police enquiring officers that he was paid to assault the victim.

The victim Jean Desveaux Augustin, aged 54 and residing at Roche Bois (in Rodrigues he lived at Pointe Coton) was kidnapped, illegally confined, and beaten up in the evening on the 10th of June. One of his friends, an eyewitness of the kidnapping then called the police who came in the house and took the victim to the hospital. A few days later, shayne Wong, aged 27, an inhabitant of Riche Terre, constituted himself prisoner and was conveyed on the spot for a reconstruction of the facts. The young man, who at first denied any implication in this matter, later confessed to the police officers of the MCIT. It seems that he had received a sum of Rs 300 000 to assault Jean Desveaux Augustin. Which may mean that other people were behind the murder. The enquiring officers are now looking closely into a drug network. Some new matters are to be put in light after the whole confession of Shayne Wong relating to this matter. And in this same case, another suspect, Eric Jean Baptiste, aged 26 and residing at Terre Rouge, was arrested in the first instance. He was arrested while trying to escape the scene of crime at the arrival of the police.

A  theft is presumably the origin of this deadly assault. One presumed boss of the local drug network had apparently accused Jean Desveaux Augustin of having stolen some drug stuffs. Eric Jean Baptiste had at first denied his implication in this case, and afterwards talked about some affairs of moral business. He explained that in a fit of anger, he would have grabbed a piece of wood and had assaulted Jean Desveaux Augustin. The dead body of  Jean Desveaux Augustin was repatriated to Rodrigues for his burials on the 22nd of June at the cost of Rs 200 000, cost beared by his family. And the funerals took place on the same date. The police enquiry is still ongoing. And it seems that more arrests  may be effected in the coming days, as apparently, several persons were involved in the assault. And the police strongly believe that drug dealings are behind this sad case, which is not the first and certainly not the last one of the kind.
