Death Of Sir Kailash Ramdanee

Must Read

Sir Kailash Ramdanee, father of Kobita Jugnauth, wife of the Prime Minister, died on Monday August 21 at around 10.40 pm. Born in 1927, he had been bedridden for some twenty years and had not been in good health. He was cared for day and night by his wife, Lady Ursule, née Maunick, and a medical staff. Dr Zouberr Joomaye, a specialist in internal medicine and owner of the Artemis Clinic, personally attended to him as soon as he was admitted to the clinic’s intensive care unit, and while his condition had stabilized by late afternoon, it deteriorated by late evening. Kailash Ramdanee was knighted in 1990. A native of Brisée-Verdière, he went on to become a leading figure in the Mauritian pharmaceutical industry and commerce.

He founded Mauritius Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Co. Ltd, a pioneer in the manufacture of medicines in Mauritius. The Ramdanee pharmacy on rue Jemmapes, Port louis is a reference in the domaiane. He set up and registered the Mauritius Diabetese Association in 1981. He also took over his uncle’s pharmacy on rue Sir William Newton in Port-Louis and transformed it into a restaurant called La Bonne Marmite, a popular address which recently closed. Sir Kailash Ramdanee was also very involved in the Rotary Club and even served as District Governor.

Le Matinal Media extends its deepest condolences to his wife Lady Ursule and children, as well as to the Maunick family.
