10 deaths this week as compared to 18 on Friday 18 March. The decrease is also recorded in the rate of positivity with 863 local cases and 109 imported cases against 1394 local cases and 45 imported cases last week. For admissions, it has recorded a decrease by 37 with 159 on Friday 25 March against 196 last Friday. At the New ENT Hospital, 9 serious cases were admitted against 11 at Friday last. An overall decrease, according to the Ministry of Health’s figures.
To Date
As of Friday 25 March, we have 97 new positive cases. The regional hospitals have recorded 44 new admissions and 3 at the New ENT Hospital where 2 deaths have also been reported this morning. They were aged 74 and 59 and lived in Quatre-Bornes and Beau-Bassin respectively. Of the 9 patients admitted to the treatment centre in Vacoas, 5 are on ventilators, of which 3 are unvaccinated and 2 partially vaccinated, and 4 are on oxygen, of which only 2 are partially vaccinated.
Ease of restrictions in Rodrigues
In Rodrigues, the number of cases has been decreasing over the last few weeks with 167 active cases out of a population of 44,220. On 25 March, the tenth district announced 27 new cases out of 240 PCR tests carried out. Indeed, the strict measures have been relaxed since 22 March. A maximum of 100 people can have access to places of worship, restaurants can accommodate a maximum of 50 people as well as gyms and beaches in groups of a maximum of 30 people…
Vaccination on the right track
As far as vaccination is concerned, the communiqué from the ministry states that 1,003,831 people have already received their first dose, 968,875 people for the second dose and 582,364 people for the third/booster dose, including 240,155 at Johnson & Johnson, 8,807 at Sinopharm, 2,825 at Astra Zeneca, 242,388 at Pfizer and 76,337 at Moderna. In Rodrigues, 32,146 or 72.70% of the population received the first dose, 31,556 or 71.36% the second and 11,852 the third.
