Covid 19 Vaccination For Protection – Where To Get?

Must Read

The Mauritian government’s intention to vaccinate most of its population against Covid 19, is quite commendable. Since Monday 21 June, access to hospitals or schools is not allowed to unvaccinated people under penalties or imprisonments. However, there is still a debate on socials networks about this decision.

On the world front, we note that many democratic states are making vaccination against Covid 19 compulsory, especially for certain categories of employees such as those in the field of health, education or law enforcement. Last April, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) gave a judgment for compulsory vaccination. According to this judgement, compulsory vaccination is necessary in a democratic society.

The ECHR considers that the vaccination policy pursues the legitimate objectives of protecting the health and the rights of others, in that it protects both those who receive the Covid 19 vaccines and those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.

The vaccination requirement does not violate the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights on the right to privacy, according to the ruling.

In Mauritius, those who speak out against this mandatory vaccination, claim no vaccine currently guarantees complete immunity against the virus or the variants. Others complain that we do not have enough vaccination Centers.

Refusal to be vaccinated may be an action harmful to others. People are not entitled to harm innocents or impose deadly risks on others. Hence, compulsory vaccination is therefore justified.
