Covid 19 : Omicron In Force!

Covid 19, more specifically Omicron, is on the rise in Mauritius with 344 positive cases but on the decline in Rodrigues with 26 new cases, according to the latest figures from the Minister of Health and the Regional Assembly of Rodrigues.

The Rodrigues figures were counted on Sunday 27 February, that is, on the day of the regional elections. Of the 8,439 registered with Covid-19 since 26 January, 7,569 are considered cured. The number of active cases in the tenth district is 855.

In Mauritius, regional hospitals have recorded 48 new admissions and 33 discharges. At the New ENT Hospital, there were 2 admissions and 4 discharges.

Vaccination – One million soon

Vaccination is also on the rise. Mauritius will soon hit the one million mark with 998,634 people for the first dose, 960,651 people for the double dose and 506,451 having done the third/booster dose. The total number of positive cases since March 2021 is 31,731, of which 27,594 have been cured.

The Pfizer First and Booster Dose Vaccination Campaign, normally held at the Paul Octave Wiehé Auditorium in Réduit, will be moved to the Raised Plaza, University of Mauritius from Wednesday 02 to Saturday 05 March from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm and in alphabetical order. This venue will also be open to adolescents aged 12-17 years for the first dose. Vaccination will resume at the Paul Octave Wiehé Auditorium in Réduit on Monday 07 March.

And the administration of the second dose of Pfizer to students will resume on Wednesday at Port Louis SSS, Dunputh Lallah SSS, Rivière des Anguilles SSS and Sodnac SSS. It will continue on Thursday 03 at Goodlands SSS and on Friday 04 at Imperial College, London College, Pailles SSS and Renganaden Seeneevassen SSS.
