Covid 19: Many Educational Establishments Under Disinfection Protocol

The Ministry of Health is reporting 100 new asymptomatic cases on Monday 9th August. But this Monday is also marked by a long list of schools closed for disinfection. Several positive cases have been identified in pre-primary, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions and in several regions of the island!

Primary and pre-primary

In Doha at Eau-Coulée, the school had to close its doors on both 9th and 10th August following the detection of the virus in two pupils of Grade 2 and 4 from the same family. At Mapou Government School, one case was found in a staff member. At Sir Reverend Edward Walter GS in Quartier Militaire, the case was reported on a Grade 6 student and the same at Ernest Florent GS in Bel Air which will resume on Friday 13th August.

14 Secondary schools in a day

After two Grade 9 students tested positive, the Muslim Girls College in Port Louis remained closed on Monday 9th August and will be closed on Tuesday 10th August. The Collège Royal in Port-Louis, the Collège Père Laval in Sainte-Croix and the College DAV in Morcellement St André will also resume on Wednesday 11th August. Several cases have been recorded at Mauritius Boys in Curepipe, New Educational College in Bel Air, Camp de Masque State College on Grade 9 students, at Droopnath Ramphul in Calebasses, it is on a Grade 13 student, at Sharma Jugdambi SSS in Goodlands, it is on a Grade 9 student. At the Pamplemousses SSS, it is on a Grade 11 student and at Universal College in Rivière du Rempart where cases were discovered on a Grade 9 student and some teachers and idem for what concerns the Lorette of Port Louis where the positive case is on a Grade 10 student who attended the school until last Thursday 05 August. At the Swami Sivananda SSS in Bambous, a case has been identified in a Grade 11 student and a closure is scheduled for Tuesday. At Saint-Esprit College, in Rivière-Noire, where a Grade 7 student tested positive, the school will resume on Thursday 12th August.

At Cosmopolitan Girls, Grade 9 and 11 students have refused to join in their classrooms after the recent cases reported in the past week. The school has then decided to close for the next two days.

UoM – Cancellation of exams

The University of Mauritius has received a case of a high school student in BSC Computer Science level 2 today and has issued a statement asking the 26 candidates in room 1.16 who took part in the exams with this student to self- isolate. The ICT 2022 paper scheduled for this Tuesday has been automatically cancelled. There was also a case at the Charles Telfair Institute where a contact tracing exercise has been set up.
