Covid 19: Call For Help To Address Health Crisis

Must Read

The death toll attributed to Covid 19 continues to rise as do the positive cases. The Minister of Health, Dr. Kailesh Jagutpal has conceded that the country is going through a critical phase.

In view of the seriousness of the situation, the Ministry of Health has made an official request to Reunion to meet its urgent needs for oxygen, respirators and resuscitation nurses through a letter, which was unveiled by the PNQ of the Leader of the Opposition last Friday.

On this Saturday, November 20, France responded positively to Mauritius’ request. The CGS Barracuda, a ship of the National Coast Guard (NCG), disembarked with a first cargo of oxygen from the island of Reunion. This is the first of a series of seven rotations planned between Mauritius and Reunion Island.  A French resuscitator with solid experience and a resuscitation nurse of the same type are in Mauritius to give theoretical courses to the staff of the ENT hospital. This team will spend six days in the island and will have to audit the protocols established by the ENT hospital in the treatment of, among others, Covid patients in need of intensive care.

In addition, the Ministry of Health has also taken the decision to recall retired doctors and nurses as reinforcements.

A request that was also made by Bruneau Laurette at the last Linion Sitwayin conference.

However, a measure that some specialists in the lap qualify as risky, because who says retirement, also says people of a certain age in advanced. They are therefore likely to be more vulnerable to the virus and this could worsen the situation.

With all these measures, it is certain that the country is facing an unprecedented health crisis and that the authorities are struggling to find a solution.
