Must Read

A collaborative effort between the Customs Anti Narcotics Sections (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) and the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) led to the interception of two Ukrainian women in possession of two glass bottles, one of which was a Gin and one of which was a wine bottle, at Plaisance airport on Saturday afternoon, October 29. These bottles contained in fact cocaine in liquid. Marila Peresolkina, a 25 years old influencer and Olena Levina, 30 years old were to incriminate John-Mick Martingale, a Mauritian cook established in Belgium as the sponsor of this drug. The latter, whose local address is Camp Cavale, Curepipe, was traveling on the same flight as the two Ukrainian women and was immediately apprehended.  The market value of these drugs is more than Rs 48 750 00 millions.

The two Ukrainian women arrived in Mauritius on flight KF 2301 from Brussels, Belgium, around 12:30 pm on Saturday, October 29.  However, they left the airport separately. A search of Marila Peresolkina’s luggage revealed two bottles of alcoholic beverages, the caps of which appeared to have been tampered with. Later, the ADSU was to question Olena Levina, who was on the same flight. When asked about these two bottles, Marila Peresolkina said that she does not know this detail. A field test was carried out and it confirmed that this yellow colored liquid is cocaine. Olena Levina was arrested in her turn.  Confronted with these evidences, the two foreigners did not delay to incriminate John-Mick Martingale as the person who paid for their trips to Mauritius and entrusted them with these two bottles in Amsterdam. This Mauritian cook, who was also on the same flight, was immediately arrested at the airport.

Drug Trafficking

The three suspects were brought before the Bail and Remand Court in Port-Louis on Sunday morning, October 30. This Monday morning, October 31, they were presented once again before the court in Mahebourg where they are facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking.
