A fresh Covid outbreak in China has spread to more locations, raising concerns over the country’s vulnerability to the highly contagious Delta variant.
In a span of 10 days, more than 300 cases have been recorded. The Chinese media is mainly dominated by news on the outbreak and the country’s top respiratory diseases specialist has expressed great concerned. The government has already implemented new travel restrictions and is testing millions.
Up to now, the government stated that more than 1.6 billion doses of the vaccine has been administered so far but the it is still unclear how many of them are fully vaccinated. A total of 15 provinces have now confirmed cases. 12 of those are believed to be responsible for the outbreak that began in Nanjing in eastern Jiangsu province. The spread is believed to the work of the Delta variant and domestic tourism.
