A reception was hosted by the British High Commissioner to Mauritius, Ms Charlotte Anik Rachel Pierre, last evening, on the occasion of the departure of Chevening scholars 2021-2022, at Westminster House, Floréal.
Seven Mauritian leaders, including a candidate from Rodrigues, were awarded the Chevening Scholarship. The Chevening scholars 2021-2022 are: Axelle Lagaillarde; Erwin Amavassee; Mehreen Rughony; Pushtika Jokhun; Shameer Ramdin; Sharuna Doyal; and Vanessa Brasse.
In a statement, High Commissioner Pierre underlined that the Chevening scholarship is UK’s flagship education partnership programme which identifies potential candidates in over 160 countries to benefit from a fully-funded Master’s Degree in the best universities of UK.
The programme, she stated, will contribute to the making of future leaders and change makers in Mauritius. She expressed her satisfaction as regards the diversity of the candidates while adding that one candidate from Rodrigues has also been selected for the scholarship.
She added that applications for the year 2022-2023 are now open and urged the youth to benefit from the programme.
The Chevening programme enables outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year Master’s degrees with some of the UK’s world-class institutions. Since its inception, the programme has brought together over 50 000 leaders who have the passion, ideas, and influence to provide the solutions and drive needed to create a better future. This year, the programme received more than 60 000 applications.
