Avian Flu: Import Permit Restrictions

Must Read

The Ministry of Agribusiness and Food Security would like to inform importers of day-old chicks, raw poultry products and poultry products from Europe that due to the upsurge of the highly pathological avian influenza better known as HPAI, in chicken farming in several European countries, the import permit will be scrupulously checked before giving the green light.

Thus, the import of day-old chicks and raw poultry products from countries, zones and regions certified by the Veterinary Authority of the exporting countries and recommended by the International Epizootics Organization (OIE) will be allowed. Chicken products will be allowed to be imported only if these products have undergone a heat treatment that will render the virus inactive. Also, products for export must be certified by the Vetenary Authority of the exporting countries.

The countries that have notified the presence of this bird flu in limited areas are: Belgium, Italy, Poland, Estonia, Netherlands, Latvia, Russia, United Kingdom, Denmark, Lithuania, Romania, Germany, France, Norway, Serbia and Czechoslovakia.
