The lawyer was in front of the press on Friday 26 August to defend his colleague, Akil Bissessur. He asked the police to make public the unedited videos.
He argued sarcastically that “this case does not seem to be what it is. It is not by viewing a part of a movie that one will understand the whole movie“. Rama Valayden immediately referred to the words of the Prime Minister, who publicly attested to the fact that Akil Bissessur was in the sights of the police at the MSM convention at the Plaza, Rose-Hill, on Monday 22 August. “This Labour Party member, Akil Bissessur, was already on our radar. We suspected him of trafficking,” said Pravin Jugnauth.
As a reminder, the detained lawyer and his partner, Doomila Moheeputh were arrested for allegedly trafficking synthetic drugs on Friday 19 August at the latter’s home in Palma, Four Horns. The operation was under Special Striking Team of ASP Ashik Jagai, where 52 grams of synthetic drugs valued at Rs 260,000 were seized. The accused has denied the charge of trafficking.
Rama Valayden challenged the PM to “render public the entire video footage taken during the search“.
