A Woman In Her Seventies Succumbs To Her Burns

Marie Roselyne Ross, 64 years old met a tragic end when she tried to light a stove to perfume her house at Chandro Bose Street, Residence La Cure in the late afternoon of Friday, November 12. The alcohol she put in a “reso” flared up. She was seriously burned: her two small children aged respectively 3 and 5 years were also burned. The septuagenarian breathed her last in the intensive care unit of the Burns’ Unit of the Victoria Hospital, Candos on Saturday morning, November 13. The autopsy performed by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed her death to an extensive Burns.

It was around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 12, that this tragedy occurred. In a statement made at the Abercrombie, St. Croix police station by the victim’s daughter around noon on Saturday, November 13, she explained that she was at her home right next to her mother’s when she was alerted that her mother had been burned. Immediately, she went on the spot and there, she found that her mother was seriously burned, her two nephews who were in company of her mother also suffered burns.

They were rushed to the hospital of Candos. After receiving treatment, her mother was admitted to the intensive care burn unit. The two children were able to return home.

The funeral of Marie Roseline Ross is scheduled for this Sunday, November 14. An investigation has been opened to find out the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
