6-Year-Old Boy Crushed Under Wheels Of CWA Tanker

A 6-year-old boy’s life is at risk. This Grand Sable resident was admitted to the Dr. Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq on the evening of Friday, March 3. This after he was crushed under the wheels of a water truck that was distributing water on Tabagie Street in Grand Sable. This street, which is narrow, not well lit, was soaked. For almost five hours the boy underwent surgery before being admitted to the pediatric ward.

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. on the evening of Friday, March 3, a team of police officers from the Vieux Grand Port Police Station, led by Sergeant Laviolette, was dispatched to Tabagie Street, Grand Sable following a report of an accident. A 6 year old boy was playing on the street and was crushed under the rear wheels of a tanker truck. Meanwhile, adults were collecting water from a tanker truck that was distributing water.

Alerted to the accident, the 38-year-old driver, who lives in Camp Thorel, had to get out of his truck quickly. It is a horror scene, a child is crushed under the wheels of his truck. With the help of the people present he used blocks and tools to pull the child out from under the wheels. In the meantime, the police and an ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service (Samu) had already arrived at the scene.

After first aid was given to the child, he was taken to the hospital with his 27 year old father. A breathalyzer test was performed on the CWA driver which was negative. He was arrested and placed in a cell at the Grand Bois police station. This Saturday, March 4, he was brought before the Bail and Remand Court in Port-Louis. He is facing a provisional charge of assault and battery.
