Woody Allen Working On His 50th And Possibly Last Film

Must Read

Filmmaker Woody Allen has said that he is set to start work on his 50th feature film. In an interview with French publication Le Journal du Dimanche, Allen hinted that this movie could possibly be the last of his long and storied career.

The legendary filmmaker is headed to Paris where he will shoot the film which is set to have a French cast.

“This will be my 50th feature. It might be the last one,” Allen said.

“I am moving to Paris in September… I found the financing in the United States, but the cast is entirely French and the film will be played in the language. I have already chosen the main actors,” he added.

The 86-year-old filmmaker insisted that his new movie is “a kind of amorous and poisonous thriller”, and will be similar to his 2005 production “Match Point”, which featured Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Step-daughter Dylan Farrow’s sexual abuse allegation against him in the 1990s has isolated the filmmaker and he is sort of a pariah in Hollywood. The #MeToo movement in 2017 brought the accusations back to light.

“I am an author and no one can prevent me from writing, and therefore from working. It is the guarantee of my freedom and of my independence,” said Allen when questioned over whether he would be able to continue making films in the backdrop of the accusations.

Allen’s last film was “Rifkin’s Festival”. The film starred actors Gina Gershon, Christoph Waltz and Wallace Shawn.
