Must Read

On Tuesday, Magistrate Valentine Mayer granted Vimen Sabapati bail on two sureties of Rs 400,000 and an IOU for Rs 6 million.

However, the representative of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions immediately indicated her intention to appeal against the release. She requested a freeze on the decision. Vimen Sabapati was therefore remanded in custody until his next appearance next week, when the DPP’s office will confirm whether he will appeal.

Vimen Sabapati, 39, was arrested on 3 May after more than 10 kilos of heroin, worth Rs 150 million, were found in his Ford Raptor in Port-Louis.

Already over four months since Vimen Sabapati was placed under arrest. The former national Muay Thai trainer was arrested on May 3 after the Special Striking Team claimed to find 10 kilos of heroin, worth Rs 150 million, in his vehicle. A provisional charge of drug trafficking was brought against him.
