Tuesday 28th September: Beginning Of The Vaccination Campaign For Students (15, 16 And 17 Years Old)

Must Read

We may not have reached the milestone of 100 cases this Sunday but the situation is worrying. There are the burning questions on the lack of information and details on the deaths, the fate of teachers should they refuse the third dose and the scepticism of parents about vaccinating their children with Pfizer

Worrying lack of detail

83 cases are asymptomatic and 12 are worrying enough to have been admitted to the ENT Hospital in Vacoas. We are now at 1.19% of the population infected with Covid, according to the Ministry of Health. To date, there are no details of the 14 deaths in 2 days. How many are directly attributed? How many had comorbidities? Were they vaccinated? One dose? Two? Or three? Particularly with the vaccination campaign of the third dose in priority which began on Thursday 23rd September now shows 59 inoculated but there has been no follow-up on their health status.

Vaccine or PCR negative

Teachers are now faced with a dilemma. As the third dose of Sinopharm is not compulsory, many teachers are leaning towards the non pricky solution. However, they will be asked to present a negative PCR test every week which will be at their own expense, as PCR tests in centres and hospitals are only available for the most urgent and unvaccinated cases. For their third dose, the coordination will be under the responsibility of the administration of the school in accordance with the day of the vaccination of the pupils which will be a day when they will be exempted from classes.

Vaccination of the 28th : 4317 concerned

With the receipt of 76050 doses from Pfizer, Tuesday 28th September is a new stage in the national vaccination campaign. It marks the beginning of the vaccination campaign for the 15, 16 and 17 years old. This age group has been prioritised and concerns around 43,000 teenagers. Under the responsibility of 10 mobile teams are Collège du St Esprit with 549 adolescents, GMD Atchia State College, 433 at the Lady Sushil Ramgoolam SSS, 600 at the Pamplemousses SSS, 436 at the Quartier-Militaire SSS, 279 at the Modern College, 723 at the Swami Vivekananda SSS, 276 cases at the Curepipe College, 353 at Phoenix SSS, 277 at Dr. Mauritius Curé State College, 391. So, in total, 4371 adolescents. But the figures could be lower because this campaign depends on the parents who have signed the consent forms. The parent population is still quite sceptical about having their children vaccinated!
