Tourism: Small And Medium-Sized Enterprises Are Still Struggling

Must Read

Only a few days left before the conditional opening of our borders to foreign tourists.  For this first phase, only a dozen hotels are concerned before the total opening scheduled for October 1, 2021.

With the vaccination campaign close to reaching herd immunity, welcoming tourists to Mauritius is becoming clearer.

For Ajay Jhurry, a specialist in the field and former president of the Association of Tourist Operators, the country has the capacity to welcome the first visitors after more than a year of closure due to Covid 19.

“I have no doubt that the hotels that are involved in the July 15 opening will be able to provide quality service to visitors.  We’ve had more than a year’s worth of downtime, but our sense of professionalism is second to none,” said Ajay Jhurry.

The latter concedes, however, that with the growing number of cases in the country should not be taken lightly. “We need to be extra vigilant on the health front. And leave nothing to chance. Because we must not forget that the virus is still threatening. It is becoming more complicated by the day,” he says, although he welcomes the opening with some satisfaction. “Small and medium-sized businesses are really struggling to stay afloat despite the government’s financial support.  It’s going to take a while to get back to normal.”
