STC Plans To Import 6000 Metric Tons Of Rice

The State Trading Corporation (STC) plans to import 6,000 metric tons of rice (Long grain white rice) for the period from October 1 to December 31, 2021. This shipment of rice, which will be subsidized by the state, will be offered for sale on the local market. The STC requires that this shipment of rice be fit for consumption and that the breakage rate be around 2%. It also requires that the shipment is not infested with insects. Before releasing this rice shipment to the market, the STC requires suppliers who are shortlisted to provide this rice shipment to send rice samples for examination by the Mauritius Standards Bureau (MSB). It also requires that the samples be accompanied by a quality certificate from the country of origin. The STC has also signaled its intention to ask the prospective supplier to supply 6000mt in shipments of 500mt to 1000mt in the first week of contract execution. STC, which has an annual turnover of USD 700 million, plans to offer the new cargo of rice for sale at Rs 270 in 25kg bags.
