St Louis Case: Amrithsingh Rajarai Arrested And Released On Parole

The 69-year-old engineer was placed under arrest and later released on parole. He will be brought to court on Monday where a provisional charge of corruption will be lodged against him.

He is the eighth suspect arrested in the St Louis case.

A search was also carried out at his home this morning. Documents were seized.

Amrithsingh Rajarai who headed the technical committee of the Central Procurement Board which decided to award the contract to BWSC. He is suspected of having pocketed Rs 2 million from PAD & Co for favouring BWSC in the St Louis project.

According to some reports, he was the one who approved the St. Louis thermal power plant project. Investigators suspect that he favored the Danish firm Burmeister and Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC) in this matter. He retained the services of Anil Kumar Ujoodha, former director-general of ICAC.

Other senior officials are also in the ICAC’s sights.

This tenebrous affair started when the African Development Bank published a report to denounce a case of bribery amounting to Rs 700 million in the awarding of the contract for the purchase of gas turbines and the redevelopment of the Saint Louis Power Plant in 2016.
