“Mo apel Alvin, mo sorti Melville ek monn vinn sers ou ek mo finn fer enn pari avek mo bann camouad ki mo kapav gagn ou nimero telefonn ek gagn ou oussi.” These are the words of Constable Alvin Bhoobun, 26 years old, to a 33 year old woman living in the village of Goodlands. This policeman of the Special Mobile Force (SMF) who lives in Melville, Goodlands, had been prowling around the house of this thirty-year-old woman since Saturday night. Alvin Bhoobun was arrested under a provisional charge of vagrancy.

It was on the afternoon of Sunday, March 5, that this woman went to the Goodlands Police Station to file a complaint of loitering. In her complaint, she explained that on the evening of Saturday, March 4, at approximately 8:10 p.m., she heard a knock on her door. She said she pulled back the curtain and there she saw a stranger standing in front of her door.

She said she questioned him about his presence at her home, to which this individual replied, “Mo apel Alvin, mo sorti Melville ek monn vinn sers ou ek mo finn fer enn pari avek mo bann camouad ki mo kapav gagn ou nimero telefonn ek gagn ou oussi. At that very moment, the Goodlands resident said, she was afraid for her safety and warned him that if he did not leave, she would call the police.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, March 5, the man did it again. It was shortly before 3:20 a.m. and she was sleeping when she heard a knock on her door. She peered through a window in her room and saw the same man who had come knocking on her door. He had been loitering in her yard for half an hour.

When she saw the police vehicle arrive, he ran away. The resident of Goodlands made a point of saying that her yard is fenced and accessible through a gate. This yard is well lit at night and is also equipped with a surveillance camera system.

On the morning of Sunday, March 5, Alvin Bhoobun was arrested by a team of police officers from the Goodlands Police Station, led by Sergeant Kurmally. Constable Alvin Bhoobun is a six-year veteran of the police force and is assigned to the Delta Company of the SMF. On Sunday, March 5, he did not miss work. The suspect was placed in the Piton detention center. This Monday, March 6, he was brought before the court of Pamplemousses. He was later released on bail.
