Sharjah International Open Para Athletics Meeting 2022: A Gold Medal And Two National Records For Mauritius

The series of good performances continued for the Mauritians during the second day of the Sharjah International Open Para Athletics Meeting 2022 in Dubai yesterday, Tuesday 15 March.

Indeed, Noémie Alphonse brought the total of gold medals won by Mauritians to four. Noémie Alphonse won the 1500m armchair T54 in a time of 3:48:39. Duangin Techinee of Thailand 3:59:71 and Chuiaui Hyatfa 4:07:52 completed the podium.

In the 200m T35-38 final, Anaïs Angeline took the silver medal and in the process improved her own national record in the T37 category in the time of 31:73 secs (old mark 31:85 secs). This event was won by Germany’s Nicoleitzik Nicole in 30:98secs.

The Mauritian harvest ended with Anndora Asaun’s silver medal in the 200m T11/12 final. Guided by Loïc Bhugeerathee, Anndora Asaun was credited with a time of 29:52secs which is a national record in the T11 category (former mark 31:64secs). The gold medal in this race was won by Germany’s Mueller-Rottgardt, Katrin (T12) in 26:74 secs.

For coach Jean Martie Bhugeerathee “this series of good performances is not a surprise, as the athletes have been in great shape for a few weeks,” he said.

In total, after two days of competition, Mauritius has four gold and five silver medals and is in fourth place in the ranking which is dominated by Algeria with eight gold medals.
