RIA Money Transfer Services Now Available In 30 Additional Post Offices

The RIA Money Transfer service provided by the Mauritius Post Foreign Exchange Co. Ltd (MPFE), will henceforth be available in 30 additional post offices, apart from the six existing ones. These include the post office of Port Mathurin in Rodrigues.

This announcement was made, this afternoon, by the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin, during a press conference held in Ebène.

The Minister recalled that in a bid to diversify its services and products, and to bring forth innovation in its operations, the Mauritius Post Ltd proceeded with the setting up of the MPFE in 2017 which subsequently partnered with RIA Africa to provide for money transfer services.

Mr Balgobin underlined that all citizens will be able to benefit from the money transfer services offered in the 36 call centres across the country. Through this initiative, he said, the MPFE is again increasing its proximity to its customers by extending its services across Mauritius.

Minister Balgobin remarked that in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, more and more people are choosing this means of money transfer due to limited mobility. He further stressed that this initiative was possible due to the relationship of trust that the MPFE and the Bank of Mauritius share. On that note, he announced that the MPFE has also obtained the license to offer Money Exchange service in its Port-Louis Branch.

In addition, he announced that the MPFE is working on a Mobile Application for the use of RIA, that will be launched soon.

As for the Chairperson of the MPFE, Mr Vireshwar Rambhujun, he reiterated the mission of the MPFE, which is to provide quality, safe and secure services to its customers. He said that additional RIA call centres will be created across the country, with the target being 50, with the aim of increasing proximity with their customers.

He affirmed that the motto of the MPFE is innovation in line with the vision of RIA. We are today standing on a solid basement with the support of RIA, offering a package of a wide range of services in money transfer backed up by quality service and competitive pricing, he said.

Mr Vireshwar Rambhujun further added that the MPFE is adhering to all guidelines of the Bank of Mauritius, complying with good governance policies and working in close collaboration with the Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Financial Intelligence Unit, in order to pave its way to be among the top leaders in the forex business.

The General Director of RIA Africa, Mr El- Hadji Malick Syek, his part expressed enthusiasm to collaborate with Mauritius in this venture. He reiterated his intent to continue to support the country in this partnership and to reinforce and diversity the relations between the two parties.

He highlighted that RIA has been rated as the world’s second largest money transfer company due to its robust retail network across the world. Despite the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are continuing to diversity our network, he said.
