One Year Old Baby Strangled To Death By Stepfather

Must Read

Alia Pierre, a 14-months old baby, met with a tragic end in the early hours of Tuesday morning at Trou-d’Eau-Douce.  The latter was strangled in the middle of the night by her mother’s partner. The 29-year-old man, Jean Damien who is a drug addict, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Bel-Air. He confessed to strangling the little one because she kept crying. However, the mother claims that her baby was not crying. Anaëlle Pierre lived in concubinage with Jean Damien and her two children, aged six years and 14 months.

Anaëlle Pierre related that Jean Damien woke her up during the night as Alia was not well.  According to her, the latter was weak. They, hence, went to the police station to ask for help to transport the child to the hospital.  They were told at Dr. Bruno Cheong hospital that the child’s pulse was weak and the doctors tried to revive her. But in vain. The mother does not believe that Alia’s stepfather is behind the death of her child.  It is only after the investigation that the man confessed his crime.

The suspect has been living with Alia’s mother for eight months. The investigators suspect that the latter acted under the influence of drugs. Anaëlle Pierre explained that her partner was not in a normal state when he returned during that night. “He had already hit my daughter in the past.”

Alia Pierre was not declared at the registry office.   Her mother earlier lived in concubinage with Jean Eric Maxwell Edouard, with whom they had Alia. The thirty-year-old man was then arrested in May 2020 for the murder of Nilma Jugurnauth.  When Alia was just a few days old, her father landed in prison. The autopsy of the little girl took a long time as she did not have a birth certificate.
