Johnson Roussety: No Privatization, No Dismantling Rodrigues Public Utilities Corporation

Must Read

The Rodrigues Regional Assembly (RRA) launched the Rodrigues Public Utilities Corporation (RPUC) on July 23, 2022, which will be the executive arm of the RRA, mainly in the water sector. Today, thanks to the RPUC, there have been 19 new hires.

Chief Commissioner Johnson Roussety, during a meeting with the new recruits, pointed out that he will be on a mission to Mauritius to discuss the project “fer RPUC vinn enn statutory body” and that there will be an Act of Parliament which will start of course in our regional assembly and later in the National Assembly. This will be beneficial for the employees, because it will secure their work.

The Chief Commissioner added that their goal is “to make the UCR become a real corporation”. Currently there are still recruitments at the UCR and soon there will be about thirty new recruits.

The Chief Commissioner also stated that there is no privatization in the water sector in Rodrigues, but the authority is rather moving towards a restructuring. He added that the RPUC is called upon to recruit and train staff members and to acquire specialized equipment to manage the water sector. The Chief Commissioner assures that the regional authority will do everything to alleviate the lack of water on the island.

It is not a private sector that will do it, it is the regional assembly of Rodrigues and it is myself, the Chief Commissioner and Water Commissioner who will do it. The Chief Commissioner asks the population to trust the new government, because there is no privatization, nor dismantling in the water sector. It is rather a modernization.
