Jagutpal: Dengue Fever Can Be Fatal

“We must not take things lightly,” says Minister Kailesh Jagutpal. The multi-sectoral committee on dengue fever met on Monday. At the end of the meeting, the Health Minister explained that the primary objective was to combat this disease. Kailesh Jagutpal pointed out that over the past few days, we have recorded several cases of dengue fever, particularly in the Port-Louis region. He also explained how treatment works. The Health Minister added that sometimes there are severe complications and dengue fever can be fatal. That’s why we’re taking it seriously,” he said.

There are currently 25 cases of dengue fever in Mauritius, most of whom are admitted to the Dr A. G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis, and six cases in Rodrigues, at the La Ferme Hospital.

Kailesh Jagutpal indicated that the situation is under control for the Republic of Mauritius, and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to testing and providing the necessary treatment to patients.

He also stressed the importance of effective communication of information to constantly sensitize the public to the precautions to be taken. He appealed for everyone’s collaboration in the fight against dengue fever.
