Must Read

A reenactment under heavy security took place at the home of Yannick Sheldon Marie, a 26 year old helper in Terrasson, Pointe aux Sables this Friday morning, May 20. The man told investigators from the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) where he fatally assaulted his girlfriend, Marie Martine Joëlle Fineau, 43, before dumping her in a septic tank at his home. Before and after this exercise of reconstruction of the facts, he was presented before the court of Bambous before being returned to his cell at the Central Prison of Beau-Bassin where he is serving a sentence for not having paid a fine. Yannick Marie, who is facing a provisional charge of murder, was brought before the court of Bambous on Thursday, May 19.

As a reminder, late in the afternoon of Thursday, May 12, the body of Martine Fineau, in an advanced state of decomposition, was found tied up in a net at the bottom of a septic tank at Yannick Marie’s home on Avenue des Rosiers, Terrasson, Pointe aux Sables. This 40 year old woman, who lived in L’Agrément, Saint-Pierre, had been missing for 3 months.

The disappearance of Martine Fineau was reported to the police station of La Tour Koenig on February 6 by her sister Nadine, because the victim had not given any sign of life for three months. In the meantime, Yannick Marie was arrested on Tuesday, May 10. It was a foul odor coming from Yannick Marie’s house that attracted the attention of his neighbors. The Field Intelligence Office of the Metropolitan Police of the South Division, who had this information, alerted the MCIT. The MCIT, accompanied by men from the Criminal Investigation Division, was to raid the area around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 12.

On Friday, May 13, MCIT inspectors Jugoo and Dewoo, under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Vikash Seebaruth, went to meet Yannick Marie at the Beau-Bassin prison. Subjected to a close interrogation, this man was quick to confess his guilt in this case. In great detail, he explained the circumstances of this tragedy. After obtaining an order from the Magistrate, the suspect was allowed to leave the Central Prison of Beau-Bassin to be presented before the court of Bambous. Yannick Marie is provisionally accused of murder.

The suspect was also examined this Friday, May 20, by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the forensic department of the police.
