Louis Norbert Ian Ramdoo, 32 years old and salesman for Panagora Marketing, met a tragic end during a hunting trip on Tuesday afternoon, March 22. The resident of Morcellement L’Unité, Camp de Masque was in the company of his friend, Ganeshwar Mudhoo, known as Rajiv, 35 years old and a driver with Triolet Bus Service, and the latter’s father, Iswarlall Mudhoo, 58 years old, when he accidentally fell into a lake in a cane field at Magon Lane, Bel Etang. Ian Ramdoo drowned as did one of the Mudhoo’s six dogs.
It was around 4:30 pm on Tuesday, March 22 that this tragedy occurred. Ganeshwar Mudhoo, who lives in Mare aux Goyaves, Camp de Masque, explained in his deposition that he had permission from the security guard posted by the Altéo company to go to the cane field near the pumping station. He says that he entered this cane field to start hunting. At one point, he heard a noise as if something had fallen into the water. At the same time, he heard the voice of his friend Ian, who was calling him. He quickly rushed to the lake where he saw his friend with one of his six hunting dogs in trouble in the water.
He immediately went to the CWA security guard for help. But when he returned, Ian was gone from the surface as was his dog, which drowned. The Camp de Masque police station was alerted and a team of police officers, led by Inspector Ramkissoon, was dispatched to the scene. In the early evening, the body of Ian Ramdoo was removed from the six-meter deep muddy lake by men of the Mauritian Police Intervention Group (GIPM).
The body of Ian Ramdoo was taken to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to asphyxiation due to drowning.
The funeral of Ian Ramdoo took place this Wednesday, March 23 at 4 pm. The funeral ceremony took place at the Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Camp de Masque before being buried in the cemetery of Saint Julien Village.
