Must Read

This Tuesday, 1,089 active cases have been registered which result in a series of temporary closures of government offices and private firms, schools, and a parish. The Ministry of Health has 377 additional cases at the last count, including 305 from two dormitories and one in a private clinic in the Centre. It is very probable that these figures may increase during the night.

The private sector affected

Late in the afternoon, several cases have been detected at the big CMT factory at La Tour Koenig, not far from infected Real Garments and screening exercises are underway. One case has been detected at the Savemart de Grand Bois on an employee, two cases at Innodis Phoenix and one at the firm Allianz which is in the grounds of the Mindspace building at the Cyber City. This firm has adopted to operate in a ‘Work from Home’ mode. There was also a case in Valleejee at Chronopost Ltd. The office is closed until further notice and all employees are in self isolation. In Port Louis, at AVC Call Centre Ltd, 22 employees have been tested positive and more than 60 employees have been sent to quarantine.

Infected government officials

Three government offices, including the CWA of Pamplemousses, have a case, namely an employee living in Trou aux Biches and ditto for the CEB of Rivière du Rempart who recently had three cases. The Rose Hill Civil State Office will be closed this Wednesday, but the authorities did not give more information on the reason for the closure of this large building facing the Rose Hill Police Station.

7 schools in disinfection

On the educational establishments’ side, they concern both colleges and primary schools. They are St Joseph in Curepipe, where a form 5 student was tested positive and Sookdeo Bissoondoyal State College in Rose Belle. Both Dr. Manilall SSS in Lallmatie and the Lallmatie Government School have remained closed. There is also the Petit Verger Government School and the Cottage Government School where there was a massive screening on Tuesday and a staff member, a resident of Saint Hilaire, was sent into quarantine with his whole family. The latest case in the running is at Ebène SSS where the suspicion was raised on a student in Grade 8 whose family member tested positive during the last week. The kid was at school during this time and was in contact with other students and teachers, hence the decision for closure.

Saint François d’Assise closed

The Covid-19 has also infected the parish of Saint François d’Assise in Pamplemousses. Nuns have been contaminated. Thus, the parish remains closed as from 4 pm this Tuesday, July 20 until further notice.

The Covid-19 is rapidly gaining ground in a sprawling way.
