Covid 19: Former Minister Among Sunday’s Two Victims

Mauritius recorded 284 new positive cases this Sunday 22nd August. Among the new cases are 10 patients admitted to the hospital ENT. But today’s sad news is the death of two covid patients at the ENT hospital.

One of the two victims is a 91-year-old woman, who was not vaccinated against Covid-19 and had been admitted to the treatment center of ENT hospital. She suffered from several chronic diseases, including diabetes and hypertension.

The other victim of this Sunday is Dr. Satteanund Peerthum. A former minister, former editor of Le Militant and former diplomat, Satteanund Peerthum, aged 80, is a highly regarded historian with several books to his credit.

It must be said that the country has had 14 deaths due to the Coronavirus since the beginning of the year.

As for schools, no less than 7 will be closed tomorrow, due to contamination among staff or students. As per protocol, these schools will be disinfected on Monday. The schools concerned are : Signal Mountain RCA, in Bell Village, Philipe Rivalland RCA, in Beau-Bassin, Cœur Sacré de Jésus RCA, in Port-Louis, Jean EON RCA, in Grand Gaube, the BPS college, in Beau Bassin, and the St-Joseph college, in Curepipe.
