China To Fund Myanmar Projects In Agreement With Junta

Must Read

China has decided to transfer $6 million to Myanmar’s government to fund the 21 development projects. According the Myanmar’s foreign ministry, the transfer is a sign of cooperation resuming under the junta that overthrew an elected government on February 1.

China has a taken a softer line of approach, unlike western countries who condemn the junta for cutting short democracy and the killing and imprisonment of its opponents, and stated that its priorities are the stability and not interfering in its neighbour.

A statement from the foreign ministry stated that the funds were to be transferred from China for projects within the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation framework. It also stated that it also included those in animal vaccines, culture, agriculture, science, tourism and disaster prevention. The statement also said that an agreement was signed on Monday with China’s ambassador to Myanmar. The Chinese Facebook page also confirmed the signing.
