Camilla, Duchess Of Cornwall Is Set To Become “Queen Consort” When Prince Charles Takes The Throne One Day

Must Read

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II has called for the Duchess of Cornwall to be known as Queen Camilla when Charles becomes King in her Platinum Jubilee message. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall is set to become “Queen Consort” when Prince Charles takes the throne one day, but what does the title mean exactly?

In a message released Saturday marking the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth becoming monarch, the Queen, 95, said that “when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

Following this announcement, the reaction of Prince William was not long in coming and sources of the “Daily Mail” said that he fully supported this decision.

“Queen Consort” is the traditional title for the wife of a reigning monarch. The title of “Queen” is only for female rulers who became monarch through the line of succession, such as Queen Elizabeth II, who became monarch when her father King George VI died.

After the declaration of Queen Elizabeth II last Saturday, the Prince of Wales expressed his gratitude on Sunday and said that he and Camilla were “deeply aware of the honor that represents” the wish of his mother. Retired in the United States since 2020, Prince Harry has not made any comment on this announcement for the moment.
