Businessman Wanted For Importing Rs 31 Million Of Synthetic Drugs

All the police officers of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) have been mobilized since Thursday, December 23 to arrest Mamode Salman Bauhadoor, a 29-year-old businessman. The latter living in St Remy, Flacq took delivery of a dummy package that was to contain 2.1 kilos of synthetic drugs from a deliveryman of the courier company DHL. The latter, Mohammad Anas Chundoo, 31 years old of Camp Chapelon, Pailles who was apprehended, says he was paid Rs 10 000 by Salman Bauhadoor for this delivery.  The market value of this drug is estimated at Rs 31 500 000.

All this affair goes back to Saturday November 20, 2021. At around 12:50 pm a parcel that was received at Plaisance Air Transport Services (PATS) Ltd of Plaine-Magnien was subjected to a verification by elements of Adsu of the airport and officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (Cans). The package, a cardboard box, had arrived from Frankfurt by flight DE 2314 on behalf of the courier company DHL.

Salman Bauhadoor

The package bears the name of the sender as a woman with an address in Catania, Italy. The name of the recipient in Mauritius is a resident of St-Remy, Flacq with a cell phone number. The package contained two plastic bottles with 0.94 kg and 1.16 kg of powder respectively suspected to be synthetic drugs.

Anas Chundoo

During the day of Thursday, December 23, an operation of controlled delivery was set up by police officers of Adsu. Anas Chundoo, a DHL delivery agent was discreetly followed. At about 1:45 pm, when he was intercepted, he was supposed to throw an envelope containing Rs 10 000 on board the van. He was to tell the police that he had already made the delivery to the home of Mamode Salman Bauhadoor.

Anas Chundoo was to lead the Adsu police officers to the home of the businessman Salman Bauhadoor. The latter was absent. A search was made at his home in the presence of his mother. This exercise allowed to find 0.5 grams of cannabis, a plastic containing 0.3 grams of synthetic drug and the sum of Rs 15 000 suspected to come from the sale of this drug.

Anas Chundoo who was brought before the court of Flacq on Friday December 24 was maintained in police cell.
