Britam Case: Lutchmeenaraidoo Questioned By Police

Must Read

He was Minister of Finance when the Britam deal was made. As such, Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo is one of the various persons who have been questioned by the police. The Domah Commission had recommended the prosecution of former Minister Roshi Bhadain, BDO and its Group Managing Partner, Yacoob Ramtoola, as well as Afsar Ebrahim, amongst others.

To the CCID, where he was questioned this week, Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo said that businessman Peter Munga is the one who has all the information. He added that no inquiry can be completed without the version of the one who bought the shares held by former BAI in Britam Holdings.

Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo recalled that his ministry sent one of its officers to Kenya in 2016 to negotiate with a firm. Peter Munga was the representative. He added that in a meeting, the figure of Rs 4.3 billion was mentioned.

He also said that in the meantime he left the Ministry of Finance for that of Foreign Affairs.

It’s been three weeks since the CCID has started its inquiry.

Yesterday, the Acting Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Dip said that five people have already been questioned in the case.
