Bérenger: We Need To Reinvent The Mauritian Economy

Must Read

For Paul Bérenger, on the one hand, the elderly throughout the world and in Mauritius is among the poorest categories. They are also subject to a lot of discrimination. “On the other hand, young people are directly threatened by the country’s debt. They have difficulty finding jobs with a future. That is why more and more young people are emigrating. They have no hope in their own country,” he said. The MMM leader was speaking at a convention organised by the MMM youth wing on Saturday. He insisted that young people was “very sensitive” to the problem of lack of meritocracy. “It is one of the big plagues in Mauritius. That is why we must reinvent the Mauritian economy. It must be restructured, and new sectors must be launched to create productive and deserved jobs, especially in the ocean economy, offshore and IT,” he insisted. Regarding the oceanic industry, Paul Bérenger said that its development in Mauritius depends on regional cooperation.

MMM returns to the right to vote at 16

Paul Bérenger, at the MMM youth wing convention, once again spoke about the right to vote at 16. He explained that this is already a reality in 12 countries and that many political parties around the world are in favour of this project. He indicated that the MMM would raise the issue with its partners in the Hope coalition. However, it is not the first time that the MMM leader has raised this issue and announced that he will discuss it with his partners.

Tribute to Cassam Zulu

The MMM leader visited the home of Cassam Wahedally, alias Cassam Zulu, in Quinze Cantons, Vacoas, this morning to pay his last respects. The long-time activist died this morning at the age of 80. For Paul Bérenger, Cassam Zulu was “a great activist, a great leader.” He added that he had great courage. Reza Uteem, deputy leader, “the militant family is in mourning, he was a MMM stalwart”, he regrets. Reza Uteem recalls that this “coltar militant” has always been a great supporter of the party and its leader Paul Bérenger. Especially during the years of repression and violence, Cassam Zulu knew how to talk to the opponent to calm the situation, he says. Reza Uteem remembers him as a man of great wisdom. Cassam Zulu’s funeral took place at 12:30 pm at Quinze-cantons this Saturday.
