Paul Bérenger held a press conference this morning. He asked the resignation or dismissal of Sooroojdev Phokeer as Speaker of the National Assembly. For him, the damage done by government and the Speaker to the country is visible internationally.
Pravind Jugnauth must be held responsible, added Paul Bérenger. “He is the one who chose this person to act as Speaker. He encourages him every week. And he is the one who brings the motions for suspensions. So his responsibility is engaged. He has to leave together with Phokeer,” he said.
The MMM leader also said that by doing everything to avoid answering the questioning of Patrick Assirvaden on Angus Road, he said that this is tantamount to pleading guilty. For him, there is a conspiracy against democracy. He said in due course the truth will come out about Angus Road, but also Medpoint and all the other scandals.
Paul Bérenger also deplored the decision to appoint an acting Commissioner of police. For him, it is a lack of respect for the Constitution. “It is like appointing someone on probation. This is not right,” he said.
