At The Lux Hotel In Belle-Mare: A 4-Year-Old Scottish Boy Drowns In A Swimming Pool

A vacation in Mauritius turned into a tragedy for a Scottish family in the late afternoon of Tuesday, June 28.  Ozair Ali, 4 years old, drowned in a swimming pool at the Lux hotel in Belle-Mare. The child was in the water with his 7 year old brother when he got into trouble. An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service (Samu) was called to the scene to transport him to the Dr Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq.  Unfortunately, the child did not survive.

It is shortly before 3:50 pm this Tuesday, June 28 that this drama occurred. Immediately alerted a team of police officers from the Belle-Mare police station went to the scene. The child was evacuated urgently to the hospital of Flacq, but his death had to be confirmed. His body was then transferred to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo morgue in Port-Louis for an autopsy. The autopsy was performed by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, on the evening of Tuesday, June 28.  The cause of death of the Scottish child is attributed to asphyxiation due to drowning.

This child and his parents had arrived in Mauritius since April for a long vacation. They were to return to Scotland in July. His father is a lawyer by profession.
