Must Read

Wanted since October 13, 2021 in a case of drug trafficking, a 22-year-old resident of Residence Barkly, Beau-Bassin, was arrested in the late afternoon of Monday, January 24, during a traffic stop. The fugitive was traveling as a passenger on a Pulsar motorcycle driven by a 30-year-old waiter living in Residence Barkly. However, he was released for lack of evidence. The man, who had incriminated him in this case, did not identify him during a parade.

It was around 5:05 pm on Monday, January 24 that the Pulsar motorcycle was stopped by a team of police officers from the Barkly police station, led by Chief Inspector Nursimuloo, at Pasteur Street, Beau-Bassin. The driver of the motorcycle was ticketed for failing to produce his driver’s license or a copy of it.

The 22-year-old man was taken to the Barkly police station before being handed over to the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) officers at the airport who came to pick him up.

The suspect was implicated in this drug importation case by Patrice Jean Vial, a 22-year-old helper. The resident of Castel, Phoenix was arrested during a controlled delivery exercise when he came to retrieve a package from the premises of an express courier company in Port Louis on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. The package contained 550 grams of heroin, with an estimated street value of Rs 8,250,000.

But during an identification parade on Tuesday morning, Patrice Vial did not identify this resident of Résidence Barkly as the person he had incriminated at the ADSU on October 13, 2021. Thus, the inhabitant of Residence of Barkly was released without any condition.
