The village of L’Espérance, Trébuchet is in mourning. Two of their own were killed in a terrible accident on the evening of Tuesday, November 30 on the Royal Road in this locality. Dhiraj Gohee, 18 years old, also known as Sonu and Ragessen Vencatasamy, 20 years old, known as Kelen, were killed when their moped collided head-on with a car. The two young people were killed instantly.
It was 7:17 p.m. when a team of police officers, led by Corporal Hureechurn, went to the Royal Road in L’Esperance, Trebuchet following a request for a road accident. This one concerns a blue moped of the Mondial brand and a white car of the Toyota brand. Both vehicles were seriously damaged and the bodies of two young people with multiple injuries were lying on the asphalt.
There were blood clots on the road while the moped was in the middle. The Toyota was on the left side of the road facing L’Esperance, Trebuchet. The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old man, and his passenger, both residents of Plaine des Roches, were injured and were taken to the North Hospital for treatment. An ambulance from the Service d’Aide Médicale d’Urgence was called to the scene of the accident. Unfortunately, the doctor on board could only observe the death of these two young people who were lying on the road.
The two bodies were transported to the morgue of the northern hospital before being transferred to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis for autopsies. These were performed by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, who attributed the death of these two young people to multiple injuries.
The driver of the car was given a breathalyzer test, which was negative. After receiving treatment at the North Hospital, he was taken to the Moka Eye Hospital where he was admitted. A team from the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service was dispatched to this location to clear the road.
An investigation has been initiated at the level of the Piton police station to shed light on the exact circumstances of this accident.
