The DPP Opts For A Discontinuance Of Proceedings Against Rigg Needroo

The company director was sued for having written an offensive message against Kobita Jugnauth. He no longer faces trial in the Intermediate Court. The prosecution on Monday 12 December 2022 filed a Discontinuance of proceedings against him. This decision was taken in light of the testimony of Dr Yash Shakti Maunick regarding the health of the key witness in the case, policeman Baboo Ekantisingh Purguss. The orthopaedic surgeon at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National Hospital in Pamplemousses stated that the constable’s health is precarious and does not allow him to testify in court. At the appeal of the case before Magistrate Ida Dookhy Rambarun, the State Counsel, Ms Geetika Purmanand- Rampoortab said that if the health condition of the police officer improves in the future, then the prosecution reserves the right to re-file a charge against Rigg Singh Needroo.
