In the presence of a lawyer, an 11-year-old girl made a statement at the Flacq police station on Monday morning, February 21, denouncing her Grade 6 teacher for abuse. The child has been so abused by her teacher since Grade 5 that she has been mentally disturbed. After school started this year, she was unable to continue her class with this teacher. Her parents had her admitted to a private institution in the village of Flacq.
It was in the presence of her father that this complaint was made. The child recounts that in 2020 (she does not remember the exact date), when she was in Grade 5 in a government school, her teacher pinched her on the left hand before telling her, “to papa enn gran president, mo missie enn gran lapolis li. This, she said, was because her father refused to help the teacher. The girl confides that since then, her life has become a living hell. The teacher had become violent towards her in class by shouting in her face in 2021, “to pa konn lir”. She also made humiliating comments to her in class, such as “to latet ena tanpan”.
Earlier this year, this teacher texted her father to tell him that the teacher no longer wanted her child in the school due to a series of complaints. After a check by her father, this turned out to be false. “To papa pense li enn gran president PTA, mo pou fer ferm li,” this teacher had thrown him before pulling his ear.
During the school vacations, she had been deprived the girl of online lessons through the school’s Zoom application. On the first day of school, namely Monday, February 7, this teacher told her, “Akoz to papa, mo pa mett twa class Zoom. Mo pena letan pou guett twa ek ale asiz deryer”. The little schoolgirl explains that she did not tell her parents about this because her father had just undergone a major surgery.
She says that she was regularly slapped and also received corporal punishment. An investigation was initiated on this case at the level of the police station of Flacq.
