Retirement Home Without A Permit, Residents Taken Care By Social Security

Must Read

Ten women and one man, who were residents of a nursing home in Bon Accueil, were taken over by the Department of Social Security for placement in other institutions after a raid by three officers of the department, accompanied by police officers from the Eastern Division. It was found that the nursing home was operating without a licence from the Ministry and that the standard was not being met. An investigation for “carrying a residential care home without licence” was initiated against the two managers.

The case was initiated by a 42-year-old higher security officer. Following information about the operation of this unlicensed residential care home, the officer and two other colleagues went to the Brisée-Verdière police station to file a complaint.

After reporting the information he had about this retirement home, a police raid was carried out in the late afternoon of Thursday 25 August. The managers of this clandestine home, a 43-year-old woman, a resident of La Source, Flacq and a resident of Bon Accueil, were questioned at length.

This house, which was operating illegally as a retirement home, was evacuated of its residents before being closed. Investigators made contact with the owner abroad. The latter explained that he rented his building as a residence, but not to operate a retirement home.
