The Emirates Swimming Pool and Sports Complex is ready. The sports project, which has been fully funded by Emirates Airlines, will be inaugurated next week in the presence of Mauritius’ ambassador to the UAE, Showkutally Soodhun.
At a cost of about Rs 200 million, works on this project in Closel, Phoenix had started in 2018 and was completed in early 2021.
This major project includes a 25m by 20m heated indoor swimming pool, a 12.5m by 4m beginners’ pool, an administration block, including a sauna, a fitness centre, a cafeteria, changing rooms, a family gym, among others.
Provision has been made for the use of photovoltaic systems to heat the pool water.
The Vacoas/Phoenix Swimming Pool Foundation was founded for the construction of this new infrastructure. We are told by reliable sources that the municipality will generate about Rs 500,000 in rental income through this project.
As a reminder, the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth had laid the foundation stone of this project in April 2019.
