A hanging garden, set up at the City Council of Port Louis, was inaugurated, Saturday morning, by the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management, Dr Mohammad Anwar Husnoo, and the Lord Mayor of Port Louis, Mr Mahfooz Moussa Cadersaib.
They also proceeded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.
In a statement, the Lord Mayor of Port Louis said that this initiative was held to mark World Environment Day, commemorated on 5 June 2022. He pointed out that the hanging garden project aimed at transforming Port Louis in a Green City.
Furthermore, Mr Mahfooz Moussa Cadersaib indicated that the hanging garden would be extended to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Street and the Supreme Court.
World Environment Day 2022 has been marked annually since 1973, under the aegis of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), to raise awareness on the necessity to protect the environment. This year’s slogan is ‘Only One Earth’ with focus on collective, transformative action to celebrate, protect and restore planet Earth.
