7 members of Linion Pep Morisien, one of Rassemblement Mauricien and Aka Roti went to the police station of Pope Hennessy this Monday where they filed a complaint against Anil Kumar Dip. Except for Sivajee Saminaden, alias Aka Roti, the 8 persons were arrested on Friday 3 March following a demonstration in front of the Central Barracks. They were subsequently provisionally charged with participation in an illegal assembly. Aka Roti, for his part, was arrested on Monday 6 March. He was charged with the same provisional charge. The 9 individuals consider their arrest to be illegal. Hence their complaint. They also intend to claim damages from the police commissioner. It should be recalled that they were released on non-monetary bail.
It must be recalled that on March 3 during a protest calling for the removal of the Police Commissioner, eight people—among them some Linion Pep Morisien members—were detained. When they were taken away by the authorities and brought before the Port-Louis court in the afternoon, they were protesting in front of the Central Barracks. After paying the court-mandated paper costs, they were allowed to leave. They were accused of “taking part in an unlawful gathering” on a preliminary basis.
